{Advice} Part 2: Your Guest List

Before you can get to the fun stuff, like scouting venues and choosing your decor, you need to decide how big an affair your wedding will be. Whether you decide on a smaller, more intimate affair or a larger celebration, numbers are critical! Some venues can only host smaller weddings, so before you set your heart on that dream venue, check your numbers. Your guest list will also help you build your budget. Catering, on average, takes up around 50% of any wedding budget, so decide who you want there and stick to it.

When it comes to drawing up your guest list, take into account certain etiquette points. For example, it is not expected of you to invite your boss (unless, of course, you are friends with them and want to) and the same goes for work colleagues. It is not impolite to invite only those you are friendly with, but do be discreet about it. You don't want any bruised egos that will make life difficult after the fact. It is helpful for you and your groom to draw up individual guest lists and then discuss and narrow them down. Again, this is something that should bond you, so listen to each other.
